Patio Bar Stools - Choosing the Right Stools. Patio Bar Stool Styles. Patio bar stools come in two main styles: backless and with backs. Either can be a good option depending on your bar and other needs. If you just want a stool to belly up to a small bar, then a backless style might be perfect. These stools may or may not have swivels, but they usually have footrests. They don`t block the view of the bar and are great for short stints of sitting.
Metal outdoor stools are manufactured in different metals for stability & durability. A good quality metal outdoor bar stool will be manufactured as a single welded unit. Any part of a metal stool that is screwed together demonstrates a lesser quality stools for the outdoor garden bar. Be aware that the screws may loosen and may eventually need repair or periodic adjustments.
Wood Stools. If you choose wood stools, look for cedar, teak, or pressure-treated pine. All three offer long-term durability and are often waterproof. They`re also quite attractive. If you have Adirondack patio chairs or other wooden patio chairs, then wooden stools would complement the total look of your yard. In most climates, wood bar stools can be left outside during the summer and part of the fall. You may want to bring them in for very heavy summer storms. You should store them somewhere dry during the wet, cold months to prevent splintering and excess wear.
Restaurant furniture can be a large investment, taking proper care of wood stools can significantly expand their life, be sure to read the manufacturer`s care instructions. Clean spills immediately, this can be difficult in a busy bar environment but an upholstered bar stool can quickly become ruined if liquor or other items stain the seat area. The faster the spill is cleaned up, the less time the spill has to soak into the fabric. Try and avoid positioning bar stools too close to walls as they will rub on the wall and damage both the wall and the stool. Try and encourage customers to not lean back on two legs, not only can this lead to an injury claim if the customer falls, it also puts a large strain on the back legs and the back of the seat which can cause either area to fracture under the tension.
Placement. Probably the biggest attraction of metal bar stools is the fact that it can stand up to almost anything, including sun, rain and small children, but there are some placement tips you may want to keep in mind. If you are only using your stools outdoors, you may want to consider buying covers to keep direct sun and rain off of them when not in use. You also don`t want to keep your metal furniture directly over a heating vent since the constant and dramatic changes in temperature can weaken the metal, especially if you have thin wrought iron style bar stools.
